My mom and dad have some property about an hour from where I live, so today my husband, brother and I went over there. They bought this farm in the 60’s and lived there for a couple of years before relocating to Nashville for work. Their plan was to move for maybe a year and then move back to the farm. While they never made it back to live at the farm, they did hold onto the property leasing to some area farmers and for the family to use for hunting.
This is my parent’s old farmhouse. It’s been empty for several decades. Even though it’s falling down, I still appreciate the structure my parents called home.
While I never lived at the farm, I have a fondness for the place. The house where my parents lived barely remains standing. Actually that’s what brought us to visit the property today. We wanted to salvage some wood from the old house.
While my husband and brother worked at removing some wood, I walked around the house and took pictures of the view from the back of the house, pictures along the creek bank, and some of the house. I am thankful that my parents saw fit to hold onto this beautiful piece of property.
Enjoying the few moments, I spent walking the property, I reflected on my parent’s living here, the dreams they had for the property, and the excitement they had buying and living here. I thought about how much I appreciate that they held onto the property. It’s really beautiful place. It makes me sad that they didn’t get the opportunity to return here and live, but I know in God’s divine wisdom that He saw fit to have them raise their family in Nashville.
So today, I give thanks for my parents. The love they have for each other, the examples they were to me, all they’ve done for me, the love the bestow upon me, and the sacrifices they made for me. I can never truly express what value they hold in my life. Because of the love they share, they love they show me, and the love they give the entire family, I am forever grateful. I thank God that He blessed me with a mom and dad that taught me about love.
