Last week I started a prayer challenge, the goal for the week was to stop and say a prayer when I feel frustrated about something and want to vent about it to a friend. This was more difficult than I thought it would be. This week I became very aware of how much I choose to look to others for comfort rather than God. As the week progressed, I did see a change in my habits. While I may still be tempted to run to a friend first, I do stop myself now. So I’m making notes in my prayer journal and setting a goal to evaluate myself in a month.

Week 2 – New Prayer Goal
Back in February I wrote a post about Improving My Prayer Life utilizing a Prayer Box and saw some great benefits in this effort, but I’m still not where I want to be. With the Prayer Box, I tried to take time once a week and pray about each thing I’d written on the card from the Prayer Box. I’d write all prayer requests on the card adding to the card until it was completely filled. (A card could last a week or even a month.) I really liked using the cards and it did make my prayer life better, but unfortunately the card system didn’t last for me. I still have my cute adorable tin sitting on my desk, but I just don’t use it now.
So what happened? I think the biggest contributor to my not following through with the prayer box is I didn’t schedule a specific time. I would do it regularly for a few weeks, then it stretched out to sporadically until it doesn’t happen now.
Also, I didn’t set goals with the Prayer Box. I just haphazardly did it. If I had made a point to schedule a time, set some goals, and enlist an accountability partner then maybe I would have been more successful.
While this may be a week late, for this prayer challenge, I want to set specific goals.

Along with my goals I’ve determined to encourage success with this Prayer Challenge, it’s important for me to build a better habit in my prayer life. A key part of building a better habit is to change my thoughts. So with that in mind, my prayer will be to help me change my thoughts.
Take time this week to ask God to show you what you need to change to have a better prayer life. Ask God to help you change your thoughts or be transformed by renewing your mind.
